Short answer

A partial refund is simply a new payment back to the customer for part of the total. The one decision to make in advance is whether you refund based on the dollar amount paid or the crypto amount received, since prices move. Refunding the dollar value is usually the fairest and easiest to explain.

The steps

  1. Agree the partial amount in dollars.
  2. Convert to the crypto amount at the current rate if needed.
  3. Send it to the customer's address and save the confirmation with the original sale.

Put your refund basis (dollar value versus crypto amount) in your written policy so staff and customers know before it comes up.

Common misconceptions

  • That partial refunds are special. They work exactly like a full refund, just for less.

Things to avoid

  • Deciding the dollar-versus-crypto question case by case. Set it in policy once.
