How this is calculated

Formula. Annual card fees ≈ Annual revenue × % paid by card × processing fee %

Assumptions.

  • A blended processing fee of 2.9% is assumed unless you change it. Real rates vary by card type, industry, and provider.
  • The weekly, daily, and per-transaction figures divide the annual estimate evenly across the year (52 weeks, 365 days, $30 average sale).
  • “% of revenue” is your effective rate: the total fees as a share of total sales.

Limitations.

  • Every business is different. Your payment mix, monthly fees, and negotiated rates all shift the real number.
  • This estimates card costs only. It does not estimate cryptocurrency savings. The guide explains where savings may or may not apply.
  • Cryptocurrency payments complement traditional cards; they don't replace them.

Why knowing your card fees matters

Card processing fees are easy to ignore because they're taken automatically, a little at a time. Added up across a year, they're often one of the larger costs a small business never examines. This calculator turns that invisible cost into a single, concrete number, so you can decide whether it's worth doing something about.

Who this is for

Any business that accepts card payments: retailers, restaurants, coffee shops, food trucks, contractors, service businesses, and online sellers. You don't need to know your exact processing rate: a sensible default is used, and you can refine it if you do.

What comes next

Understanding the cost is step one. If you're curious whether modern payment options, including cryptocurrency, could reduce some of it, the guide walks through your options honestly, including where they help and where they don't.
