Short answer

It depends on what you value, and you do not have to pick just one. A stablecoin holds a dollar value, which removes price worry entirely. Bitcoin has the largest customer base and, over Lightning, the fastest cheap payments. Many processors let you accept both, so plenty of merchants do.

The simple way to decide

  • Want zero price movement? Lean stablecoin, or auto-convert Bitcoin to dollars.
  • Want the widest reach? Bitcoin has the most holders and the strongest brand recognition.
  • Not sure? Support both and let the customer choose.

If you auto-convert to dollars at the point of sale, the difference between the two shrinks for you: either way you end up with dollars.

Common misconceptions

  • That accepting one means you cannot accept the other. Most tools support both at once.

Things to avoid

  • Overthinking this before launch. Start with what your processor makes easy and adjust later.
